Bekash - Apr 2009

Summary

The evening kicked-off with the ‘usual suspects’ meeting at The Plough, a favourite meeting place for all curry outings in Stony. After a few beers and much discussion re the forthcoming MK Dons v Walsall match it was only a short walk down the High Street before we were all quickly seated at our pre-booked table for 14 -only one short of a full MKCC turn-out.

The restaurant was clean and tidy, with a pleasant atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient and were quick to take our beer orders. We started with a mix of spicy and plain popadoms and pickle tray which went down very well – this is always a good sign!

For starter I chose a stuffed pepper, not something I would normally choose. However, it was enjoyable and I couldn’t fault it. In general however, the starters were below standard (see negatives) below.

The main courses saw an improvement on the starters. Mine was Duck Dupiaza which was very good and tasty and was washed down with several bottles of Kingfisher (limited beer choice). The side dishes were mostly good, rice and breads were well presented and good sized portions with fresh and tasty vegetables. In general the chicken was better than the lamb, which was a little tough (the club has high standards for lamb and in several dishes this did not ‘melt in your mouth’).

We were treated to a special chicken and lamb dish which were both very good. The names of these were not recorded but I don’t believe they were on the normal menu (this was a little confusing in its layout). It does show that the Bekash can do special orders if required.

The Bekash coped well with our large, noisy group and all the courses were served quickly with no forgotten orders or dishes being served lukewarm (they had hotplates). It is a ‘par for the course’ restaurant that has been established a long time and caters well for its regular clientelle.
