Dinajpur -
Summary
As it was a holiday weekend, some of the members had chosen to go camping, so we were reduced to just nine, the smallest number for some considerable time.
We met at the Bull and Butcher at Fenny Stratford and had the lounge area almost to ourselves. However, it was a warm evening and there were a number of customers in the garden. The staff proved to be efficient and helpful.
Having booked at the Dinajpur across the road for 8.30, we duly presented ourselves on time but the table wasn’t ready. We wondered if it was going to be a repeat of the previous time we went there and had to wait about an hour for the table and repaired ourselves back to the pub. However, the wait was fortunately only 5 minutes or so. Although we asked why the table was not ready, no reason was forthcoming.
The restaurant was pleasant although the background music was western rather than eastern. The waiters were friendly and helpful and the poppadoms arrived quickly with a selection of 5 dips. There seemed to be a general agreement that the lime pickle was better than many other restaurants, being smooth and not over fiery.
Seeing that the menu indicated that the lamb Chops were tender, I ordered them and found them to be just so. Perhaps they were a little thinner than expected, there were three of them and they had been perfectly marinated.
Unfortunately, my main course of Chicken Jalfraizi was disappointing. The chicken was dry as if it had been added to the sauce at the last moment and the sauce itself was not as spicy as I had been prepared for. However, the other members sitting close to me were pleased with their choices, so perhaps I had just been unlucky.
Summing up, I thought that the restaurant was a good average and the evening was made more pleasant by of the friendliness of the staff and of course, the company of the other members of the Curry Club.
A fairly good restaurant to visit overall, certainly an improvement on our last visit, and a good place to bring a partner.
