Indian Cottage Review - February 2011

wpf2df1d80.png

Located on the High Street in Newport Pagnell you would think that the restaurant would be very busy but only a few tables were taken and by 10 o’clock the place was empty apart from us.

No particular reason for this as far as we could determine as the staff were very attentive, the ambiance is reasonable and the food was ok at an average price.

Maybe ‘average’ is the word as it was difficult to find something that made the Indian Cottage stand out from other Indian restaurants in MK. Not a bad place to take your partner but I’m not sure that many of the club would choose to go here were they given the choice.

Summary - Generally, the main course dishes lacked any heat or spice and were too sweet. The overall experience lacked something to get excited about.

Common Curry -  An average price.

No certificate awarded.

Other Comments

Positive:

  • The staff tried hard and were friendly
  • Large, comprehensive menu, slightly unusual
  • Good decor, clean and bright
  • Onion bhaji - good
  • Very good Rashmi kebab (special order)
  • Bengal fish bhuna, tasty, moist fish
  • Nans and vegatable dishes were good, the dahl being the only hot dish on the table

Negative:

  • The food service was too slow, had to ask to order, 50 minutes for starter to arrive
  • Fish starter for two, good trout, if boney, but other fish poor
  • Peri Peri chicken, tasty but not as advertised
  • Lamb Nahari (chef special), tough lamb and little taste
  • Tandoori mixed curry, nice sauce but lamb was tough
  • Chicken bhuna, tough chicken and tasteless
  • Only two Bangla beers in stock - strange
