Kardamom Review - February 2008

Summary

Another curry house in good old Stony. If our experience is anything to go by then this one shouldn’t provide too much competition for the others, from the traditional customer at least.

Its all nicely decorated and well laid out but don’t be fooled by your first impression. This is like an English restaurant that sells curry to couples looking for a couples restaurant, with your standard pub music playing in the background (I thought they had a jukebox) who don’t like spicy food very much.

Why on earth do you get pickled beetroot and gherkin with your dish, again, its not a ploughmens lunch!

In general, the service was exceptionally slow and also quite abrupt. If you ask a dozen blokes to wait a long time for their food and keep asking them if they want more beer, then some noise is going to get generated. On two separate occasions we were asked to keep the noise down , it was loud but not obscene. This upset a couple of members so much they they were willing to walk out of the restaurant. The rest were starving so we all stuck it out.

This, along with the poor service and average food means we would not recommend a visit, unless you like ‘going for an English’.

Other Comments

Negative:

  • The lamb was in large chunks that could only be cut in the direction of the grain of the meat.
  • An overpowering smell of fish from the kitchen
  • When the food arrived it was no longer hot
  • Only got lime pickle when requested - is it too spicy for most of their customers ?
  • The bhajees were soft and oily
  • Sag Puree Paneer a bit dry and not much flavour
