Passage to India Review - August 2010

wp4d0cf80d.jpg

Met in the Plough, which is usual when visiting a Stony restaurant. Buzzing and friendly but ‘problems’ pouring the much needed pints for some reason?

The Passage to India is situated in a concourse off the High Street and is only a short walk from the pub. We were greeted by friendly staff, seated, watered and served dip and pops whilst choosing our mains.

The menu is clear but there is no indication of heat in the dishes. A few members tried the fish starter and found it tasty with delicate flavours and not too hot. The Rashmi Kebab was very well cooked but the Onion bhajis seemed dry.

On the whole, the main courses faired better, good portion sizes supplied with very good rice and naans. The Tandoori Mixed Grill was also a big hit.

The vegatarian option was also above normal standards and, indeed, all vegatable side dishes were very well cooked and flavoured - not mushy at all.

The Passage to India provides a good setting, clean, nicely decorated with authentic background music and plenty of staff. It was quiet when we visited, even on a Friday evening, the service was still a bit slow but not really an issue.

Summary - The food is of a good standard, albeit lacking ‘kick’ in some dishes, but is recommended for a decent meal out.

Common Curry - An average price.

3 star certificate awarded.
